It has been exactly 2 months since The Gaff and I launched “Soul Sisters, Stand Up!” on Soundcloud & Mixcloud. Over 35000 plays later, we’re happy to see that it has been enjoyed by good music lovers abroad and is continuing to reach new ears.
In July, we hosted a Toronto launch for the mix. Now in September, this weekend, we are heading to Gaff’s neck of the woods for an official prairie launch of the project with an all vinyl extravaganza. I’ll also be rocking Saskatoon the following night, that’s right, a BACK TO BACK affair, at the Odeon with 911 Turbo Music. ASK ABOUT IT. Flyer below, Facebook event page HERE.
For those looking to grab a copy online, The Gaff has posted the CDs and ladies t-shirts on his bandcamp page. Make a move now, as CDs are limited and tees are VERY limited. Here’s what they look like:
You can get it, get it, get it, get it….
I would also like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing of my friend Matthew Africa. In the days following Matthew’s tragic passing, testimonials poured in online from hurting friends & fans, mourning the loss of one of the kindest, smartest, nicest, most sharing people they knew. My time with Matthew was defined by those characteristics, meeting him in SF at a DJ gig and staying in touch online; reaching out with record questions when I felt that I had reached my wit’s end, or searching for something that I knew he had the answer to. He also supported my mixes, and as The Gaff and I tried to get this themed mix off the ground and out to the public, Matthew was one of the people we reached out to for help. He responded nearly instantly and definitely helped us share the project with more like-minded music fans. As such, this project will always be associated with him for me. Sad because it was the last time we spoke, but the positivity and community spirit leaves me hopeful and inspired to help others as he has. Thanks again, Matthew, and may your many contributions to the DJ world continue to influence those who’s path they cross as they have ours.
Rest In Peace.
