Continuing on with the Skratch Bastid Presents series, I’ve got another collaborative live show to announce. Friday, July 9th at The Drake Hotel Underground will feature my good friend Cosmo Baker and I on 4 turntables.

Originally from Philly and now based in New York, Cosmo is a well rounded DJ and connoisseur of the finer things in life. 1/3 of the infamous NYC crew The Rub (with DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven). Mainstay at The Do-Over party in LA. Co-founder of Sabbath in the Park (he went to court for that shit). You can read all about him at his website, and while you’re over there you should check out his great blog where he talks about music, art, gigs and ’stuff’. Some nice nuggets to download, too. For the record heads, here’s a nice interview with Cosmo at Dust and Grooves.

We’ll be rehearsing and hitting you in the head with 4 deck madness. We will play a bit of everything. You will have fun. You will hear new music. You will hear songs you haven’t heard in a while. You will see tricks done with turntables that your brother’s-friend-that-DJs-on-Wednesday-at-the-pub cannot perform. You will tell everyone how much fun you had at The Drake Underground on Friday, July 9th, 2010 and you will be a better person. Do it.

For all you Facebook people, check the event invite and get your attend on. Read further for a free mix from Cosmo and some video.

On Saturday, June 18th, Scratch, Skratch, Scratch set up a spontaneous show outside of Moog Audio on Queen Street in Toronto. Unauthorized and unadvertised, they freestyled a set fit for the perfect summer weather to promote their upcoming Toronto Jazz Festival show on Thursday June 24th @ MOD Club . Pedestrians and drivers didn’t know what hit them.

The Toronto Sun gave Scratch, Skratch, Scratch some shine in their daily print yesterday. Errol Nazareth asked us about our upcoming Toronto Jazz Festival show and gave readers a general introduction to our group.

In order to draw new audiences and stay alive, jazz festivals all over the world have been embracing non-jazz sounds for a while now. So-called jazz festivals in the Caribbean that I’ve attended feature more American R&B than straight-ahead jazz and even festivals here have begun programming more ‘world’ and soul acts. Skratch says this festival is a perfect forum for the group. “The jazz music approach of ‘improvisations on a theme’ is essentially what we do, but in a very non-traditional way. We’re going to give the crowd a show they will not forget.”

I made this one during my European travels. Classic Outkast and Raekwon verses over Crystal Castles’ latest single’s infectious rhythm. Seeing as we won’t be hearing Big Boi and Andre on a track together any time soon, I put a new twist on this. Tested this one out in Helsinki and Oslo and it’s a go. Run it! Check it out, and if you would like to keep it, click on the arrow in the player to download it.
