I’m proud to announce (and be a part of) a great event in support of hip-hop’s creator DJ Kool Herc. Toronto’s strong hip-hop community has come together to put on a DJ show to collect donations for his support. Herc was recently hospitalized and is subject to high medical bills. There’s some more info about it over at DJ Premier Blog.

For this gig, all DJs will be taking it back to the source and playing ALL VINYL SETS! As this was the way it started, we only see it fit to honor the man in this way. Going to be a great night. Let’s come together and make an impact.

Be there: February 10th @ Wrongbar, 1279 Queen Street West, Toronto. 9pm-2am. Facebook event right here. Read on for a press release…

Had a great weekend of shows and sessions last weekend. First off was Denver/Boulder, Colorado with my homie (and one of the best scratchers in the world) DJ Vajra. We rocked a show @ ‘Round Midnight in Boulder and had some great DJ practice/discussions. One great thing about traveling is getting to build with people like Vajra and LEARN while you’re on the road. Check out a video of us scratching below:

On the same tip, when I got back to Toronto I linked up with T-dot’s own DJ Wristpect and Wiz Khalifa’s selector DJ Bonics before Saturday’s Midnight Mix show w/ DJ P-Plus. We had a similar session with 3 turntables and politikin about THE GAME. Footage soon to come. Watch this space….

Read on for more video of Vajra. The guy’s a beast.

I had this up on my Soundcloud page for a while but was waiting for proper artwork before posting it over here. Thanks to some time off today in Denver before playing a stripclub steakhouse, we now have a visual image to match the audio experience. Enjoy.
Andre 3000 – Sleazy Remix ($kratch Ba$tid’s Ke$ha-less Edit) by Skratch Bastid

Scratch, Skratch, Scratch played Concordia last week, and writer Sarah Deshaies asked me a few questions. CCCCCCHeck it out.

Sometimes I don’t mind a low quality image. It’s like a dubbed copy or something. Whatever, this image represents this post, so I’m sticking with it. Plus I don’t own a scanner. File under: things to invest in in 2011.

Going to check out Aceyalone tonight at the Drake Underground in Toronto. As a young hip-hop fan, I was reasonably obsessed with the music produced by Acey/Freestyle Fellowship/Project Blowed. The crew have a catalog definitely worth sinking your teeth into. I don’t have a whole lot of time now to go very in depth with their history… there’s a few things written about them on the modern internet, but much of what I learned from them was through cassette dubs from people I met on the old internet and old hip hop magazines.

My first show in Toronto was actually opening for Aceyalone & Smut Peddlers in two-thousand-something (before Google, apparently) at the Opera House. I was also fortunate enough to DJ a live show @ SXSW 2003 with Awol One, Josh Martinez, Sleep, Kunga 219 & Bishop that ended in a freestyle session where Aceyalone & CVE’s Riddlore where the crowd kept edging in until there was essentially no stage and the raps were RIDICULOUS. F@CKIN RI-DICALUS!

I might need a refresh on some of the songs pre-show. I think I’ll start with The Guidelines, then go from there. Chef’s Recommendations: Mic Check, Cornbread, Greatest Show On Earth, Hot Potato, Innercity Boundaries, Makeba, Lost Your Mind, Find Out…. the man has some tunes. Many youtube embeds below. Enjoy.
