Check out this video of a Bastid live set recorded in Auckland, NZ on the first leg of the Intercontinental Champion Tour. Featuring some of the remixes you may have heard over at the Skratch Bastid soundcloud page, some routines like the James Brown “I Feel Good” jumpoff & the Parliament/Pink Floyd ditty, and a bunch of other good music, new and classic. Enjoy!
From the edge of the earth – hello! Pictured above is Queenstown, New Zealand, where I caught a bit of ‘R&R’ after the first leg of my tour. After some shows with Russell Peters and a couple Canadian dates in early November, I performed in Australasia for the first time. An amazing part of the world! And then, quicker than ten days have ever gone, I found myself back in beautiful (freezing) Canada. Check these pictures and a recap of my adventures below:
This year, I’ve been traveling around to variouscountries judging and showcasing at Red Bull Thre3Style competitions. It’s an exciting event, and one thing that always keeps it interesting for me is how diverse each country’s DJs are compared to the next country. Regional music interests and pride can play a large part in a local crowd’s response, and it’s great to hear new music from all over the world. The competition came down to a very tight final between DJs ‘Alphabethead’, ‘CXL’, ‘Scratch 22′ & ‘Jeremy’, with ‘Scratch 22′ emerging victorious. We’ll see how he fares at the world final December 9th in Paris @ Elysee-Montmartre.
Along with my showcases in Wellington & Auckland, I had a chance to do a Red Bull Studio Session at the Auckland studio. I don’t get a whole lot of opportunities to do radio-like work with my travel schedule, so it was nice to chill out and do a non-club live set. It was broadcast over 5 stations around the country and will soon be online. Watch this space…
Then it was back to the barren lands of Canada, doing the post-Grey Cup mountain run of Glory. The 2nd leg of the tour was one I know well, a route that took me (quickly) through BC, Alberta & Saskatchewan. Whistler, Vancouver, Golden, Revelstoke, Banff, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, Fernie & Calgary all got hit up, nearly consecutively. With one day off in the middle, there wasn’t too much time for leisurely activities in the mountains, but I still managed to squeeze in a ride down beautiful Fernie mountain.
The shows were great. Fortune in Vancouver (2nd pic below w/ GMAN) is always a rager: rocked that shit with my man Rico Uno… we pulled out that dancehall that had Vancouver winin’. Golden/Whistler/Revelstoke/Fernie/Banff (pictured below) were all buzzing with the buzz that the first snow on ski towns brings. Always fun to play these little towns. Their tastes are more sophisticated than you might think. Big cities, take note! Saskatchewan is always fun, hit 2 cities with my man The Gaff, constant nerdery. Fernie is as Fernie does (read: awesome) and Calgary was a special video show with two great DJs, mz DJ Reece and my old friend DJ Pump, who rocked 4 turntables with me to close the night off. It was a preview of things to come.
Great gig to end off a great run. Big ups to Grace, Penfold, Boogie Blind, Dave from Zen, Alphabethead, Downtown Brown, Paora, Anna, Jay, Scott, Brigid, Aroha, Nick, Bulletproof, Gman & Rizk, Fatt Matt, Brand, Lazersword, Prison Garde or whatever VRS is calling himself these days, Pineboxx, CV, Katie, MC, Wackutt, Aaron, Hayley, Buffy, Cold Technician, Skrelick, Michelle, Ron, Kooler, Sincere, Gaff, Neil, Sarah, Rockpile, Decker, DJ PJ, Bulldogs, Sarmad, DJ Pump, DJ Reece everybody @ Hifi, everyone else that I chopped it up with in my travels, aaand ESPECIALLY you. yes, You. YOU, for coming out and making the first two legs of this tour possible.
And with that, my 3 days off are over and I’m boarding my plane to Paris for the Red BullThre3Style World Finals. After that, Galway, Sligo, Dublin, Hamburg & Cologne are all getting a piece of the action. Snap into a Slim Jim! Ooohhhh yeeeeeeeah.
