Well, the gigantic news I’ve been waiting to tell you about is a BIG show this weekend. SCRATCH, SKRATCH, SCRATCH at Canada’s weekend of musical celebration, the Junos. Hosted by Canadian boy wonder Drake. Also featuring sets from Grahmzilla (formerly, and for this weekend, of Thunderheist) and Team Canada DJs Grandtheft and DR-1. It’s happening tomorrow night, April 17 @ The Majestic (12am). I’m also playing a solo set tonight at Konfusion (11pm).

A misspelled flyer can’t stop me from posting this now. After all, it is Newfoundland, and everything’s a little bit off in a special way.

As an audio bonus, here’s a little blend I made with Drake’s current rap smash ‘Over’ over one of my favorite southern beats this year, Travis Porter’s ‘All The Way Turnt Up’. Enjoy.

Turnt Over – Drake & Travis Porter (Skratch Bastid Blend)

If you’re on ‘The Rock’ tonight, I’ll be throwing down at Konfusions and getting my fingers nimble for the big show Saturday night.

Follow me on twitter for the play by play, and facebook for some good pics this weekend. Oh, and rumor has it that Trending Topic stalwart Justin Bieber will be in the building drinking soda! I’ll be on the Screech.

This morning was good for a few reasons. 1) I woke up well rested from a long-weekend off, 2) I went for a good bike ride on the new whip, and 3) A NEW BIG BOI SONG CAME OUT. Whatever ‘out’ means. Anyway, it’s great. Scroll down for the goods.

I’ve been eagerly waiting on the new Big Boi album for the last 2 (!) years. He has shown pretty great patience through this whole time and somehow has avoided the whole ‘f@#$ the label’ rant many people fall into (typically under a much briefer period of time), not bringing too much attention to the whole situation and ultimately still keeping momentum rolling with each single (though I think someone somewhere could be a liiiiittle bit more efficient). I asked Big Boi some questions last October when he dropped two extremely dope singles that have lasted in my rotation longer than most this year. This new one, “SHUTTERBUGG”, is no exception.

But seriously, can we get the new record already? I know they’ve got one with T.I. on deck and one or two more with Andre, but how many more singles are you going to put out before we get everything? While I love all the singles, a part of me kind of wishes I heard all of them on the same album all at once for the first time. I guess it’s not really the way things are released these days.

On a completely-unrelated-but-kinda-sorta tip, my good old friend Buck 65 and I made a song of a very similar title a few years ago.

“Shutterbuggin” was the third single released from the Situation album in 2007. That beat was one of the first ones that I sent to Buck when we were making the album and was completely crafted on my SP-1200 sampling this record (and clearing it!). It’s one of my favorites from the album.

That was the album that earned me my Juno nomination in 2007 and in 2 weeks, I’m heading back to the awards weekend, not for the ceremony but a very special show that I am going to announce tomorrow. Big news!

Stay tuned….and for tonight, cut a rug & throw two deuces in the sky for the shutterbugg.

Today I will be participating in a fundraiser for Concern Worldwide called Twestival TO. It’s basically a real-life meet-up for a bunch of ’social media’ types from around the city, aiming to be actually physically social and raise money for a good cause. If you’re in Toronto, check the website for more details, or take these notes: Tryst Nightclub, my set is from 9:30-10:30.

I imagine my day will be something like this:

Oh yeah, follow me.

Top o’ the mornin’!

Today I am preparing for a gig that is essentially a fusion of my own existence. Where the Irish meets rap. Where the club meets the pub. Where the ginger meets the yell (well, I guess we do a lot of that anyway). I’m talking about my St. Patrick’s Day gig in Halifax with FATMAN SCOOP.

Never did I ever think these paths would cross, and never did I think it would be on this day. But I can tell you right now, it’s gonna be some shit. Green beer and chants.

I’m hoping that he will help me re-create this moment.

THAT’S ALL.

Pics to come when the thang happens.

If you’ve been keeping up with me on this website, on Facebook or onTwitter, then you probably know that for the past month-and-a-half I’ve been on tour with the Red Bull Thre3 Style DJ competition. I’ve had an incredible time as a performer and judge in each city/area; seeing talented DJs of all styles take a shot at rocking the decks for packed rooms across the country. We’ve had a tight crew for the long haul : host/MC/rapper ternt sanga Mr. Curtis Santiago has kept crowds informed and under control, the multi-talented Fokus Productions visuals team has made it look incredible, and young photo-phenom David Lang has taken pictures of it all.

At the start of the year, I filmed some video breaking down the details of the rules of the event. I showed those earlier this month in another post, so I’ll skip that this time and get right into a full recap.
