Wooo! I’m still coming down from that one. I’m happy to say that Bastid’s BBQ 2011 was a great success! We held off rain (it rained very lightly for 10 mins, but it appeared people were ‘feeling the vibe’), the DJs came with amazing sets geared towards good times in the afternoon & early evening, and I didn’t see a single frown. Except for maybe one of the tourists outside who couldn’t take the bass.

Thanks SO MUCH to all those involved, from the DJs (go check their pages now!), to UnionEast, SofaKingRaw, Steam Whistle, Red Bull, Eventrix, Dose & everyone involved in production, to all of the beautiful people who came out to dance, socialize and feel good on a special night the megacity.

ClubZone.ca was on hand to shoot some pictures. Seriously, there were some good looking people at this BBQ! Would you expect anything less? Have a gander for yourself at the gallery: BASTID’S BBQ 2011 PICS (courtesy of Dose.ca)

We started talking about next year THAT EVENING, so you can bet we’ll be back next year for more good times. Hitting the road? You never know! One thing’s for sure – Toronto will be getting more Bastid’s BBQ.

Hot damn, the BBQ is tomorrow! I can’t wait to see you all out on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Toronto enjoying some good tunes and good peoples.

The idea behind the event is simple: everyone loves a good BBQ. Food, friends, music, good times. So I present to you: Bastid’s BBQ. Where music, food and people meet to celebrate the best in each other. DJs playing that feel good music, delicious food hot off the grill, and plenty of pleasant surprises for you and your friends. Our friends. Us. See you there.

There will be delicious food for everyone courtesy of Eventrix, the people behind Beer Festival, and of course drinks of the alcohol and non-alcohol variety, including those from our good friends at Steam Whistle and Red Bull. But that’s just where it starts. Feast your eyes on the MUSICAL MENU:

DJ Starting From Scratch
Starting From Scratch is one of the best DJs in the world. He’s probably the best live mixer I’ve ever heard. We did our thing together in the Scratch, Skratch, Scratch project. Alongside DJ Spinbad, he’s Russell Peters’ tour DJ. Check out his Soundcloud page and have a listen to some of his many remixes, great tools for DJs, too. Top dude.

DJ Wristpect

This guy – always doing something, always going somewhere, and always doing it proper. Lucky enough, he’s in The Dot on August 20th. His website has a lot of stuff you can do/listen to/watch, definitely worth a visit. Ill on the cut, also! Hoping to steal a combo or two when he’s not looking next weekend.

Bonjay

Bonjay are a fantastic music duo from Canada. Their music is great and their live show worth every cent. They’ll be leaving the stage to hop behind the decks for a DJ set on the 20th, but don’t expect it to be any less AWESOME.

DJ P-Plus

My co-conspirator in the Midnight Mix series, P is a pleasure to rock sets with. A stand-up dude all around, always doing good things as far as I can tell on his twitter account. Catch him live tweeting the BBQ in person! It’s twice as exciting. No really, the kid gets busy, peep it.

DJ Paul E Lopes
Bump & Hustle is one longest standing nights in the city (14 years!?), not to mention one of the most reliable for quality tunes and people. Paul’s musical knowledge is cavernous and I can’t wait to see what he brings as BBQ music!

DJ John Farrugia
A very welcome addition to the original line-up, Johnny’s an Ontario native but has expanded to the UK with his sound Big Toe’s Hifi, now based out of Edinburgh and London as well. Top notch reggae & dancehall vibes – he’ll be playing an all vinyl set that will surely seduce women.

Anyone else? It’s a Saturday afternoon in Toronto. You never know who might be in town…

We’ve been running contests for the past few weeks and there’s still time to enter them all, so get on it. Help me spread the word about this event and you could walk away with some music, sauce, WeSC HEADPHONES and more. Participate for your chance to win at one of these sites:

Here’s a video for the Dose contest:

See you there.

Shambhala Music Festival is a world renowned festival based in the middle-of-nowhere Canada. It attracts 15,000 attendees every year and is a weekend of electronic/alternative (not the genre)/experimental/funky music and good times. 6 stages, GREAT sound, beautiful environment… check their website for more gloating.

I had a great time playing at the Rock Pit on Thursday and the Fractal Forest Funk 45 Jam on Sunday. The crowd is open-minded and you can throw just about anything you like at them – a great place to test out new jams & mixes. Here’s a clip from my set at Rock Pit, setting the festival off in the sun!

Skratch Bastid Set in Rock Pit

Below is some more footage & pics of friends new & old. So many great sets from DJ Numark, A-Skillz, Mat The Alien, The Gaff, Wackutt, Vinyl Ritchie, Bird Peterson and many more… another great year. Congratulations, Shambhala.
